UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres in Kiev

Russian missiles hit an area near the center of Kiev near the British embassy today.

One of the targets hit by the attack is a residential area where victims have been registered.

On his Telegram channel, the Kyiv city council said that Russia was behind them. Explosions were reported in the Shevchenkivskyi area. Officials say all emergency services are at the scene.

The blasts come at a time when UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is visiting Kiev for talks and giving a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

The rocket attack “shocked me. "Not because it was me, but because Kiev is a holy city for both Ukrainians and Russians," UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres was quoted as saying by Portuguese media.

A Ukrainian presidential adviser, Mykhailo Podolyak, also reacted to the incident, highlighting the fact that the rocket attacks took place during Guterres's official visit.

"The day before he was sitting at a long table in the Kremlin and today the explosions are over his head. "Postcard from Moscow?" He wrote in a Twitter post. Earlier, Guterres said the Russian invasion of Ukraine violated the UN statute.

Earlier in the day, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova warned the West against encouraging Ukraine to invade Russian territory.
