The winner of the Nobel Peace Prize will be announced today by the Norwegian Nobel Institute in Oslo.
But as the world awaits the name of the next laureate, a familiar voice has begun to become increasingly loud, that of US President Donald Trump.
Trump has long claimed to deserve the prestigious prize, calling himself a key factor in promoting peace in the Middle East. As early as his first term in the White House, he declared that "many people" thought he was worthy of the Nobel.
During a meeting in February with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump expressed confidence in his merits, but also skepticism about a reward from the Nobel committee: "They will never give me a Nobel Peace Prize. I deserve it, but they will never give it to me."
