Donald and Melania Trump demanded his firing, Jimmy Kimmel reacts

Jimmy Kimmel has responded to criticism from President Donald Trump for his joke about Melania, whom he called a "future widow."

The host said this during his evening program, just days before the shooting at the White House Correspondents' Association dinner.

Kimmel called the joke a "light joke" about the 23-year age difference between the president and his wife.

"Our First Lady, Melania, is here. Look at Melania, so beautiful. Mrs. Trump, shine as a future widow," Kimmel said during Thursday night's sketch.

In his first monologue on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” after the shooting, the comedian said the joke was “a very light-hearted jab at the fact that President Trump is almost 80 years old and she’s younger than me. It was in no way a call for assassination and they know that; I’ve been very vocal for many years speaking out against gun violence in particular,” he added. “I agree that the rhetoric of hate and violence is something that we need to reject; I think the place to start on that is to talk to your spouse,” Kimmel said.

After the skit, Melania Trump accused Kimmel of using "hate speech and violence."

“That monologue about my family is not comedy — his words are corrosive and deepen the political disease within America,” she said. “How many more times will the ABC executives allow Kimmel’s appalling behavior at the expense of our community?”
The president demanded his dismissal from the show, a moment that brought back the clash between them in September, after Kimmel joked about the murder of Charlie Kirk.

Clearly, the moderator's last comment refers to Trump's actions for which there is great dissatisfaction in the US, such as the war in Iran, the deportation of immigrants, or the attacks on the Pope.
