More details are emerging from the explosion that occurred this Friday at an explosives factory in Tennessee. This incident, according to local authorities, has left 19 people missing and caused extensive material damage.

The incident occurred on Friday morning at the facility of the company Accurate Energetic Systems, which specializes in the production and storage of explosives, near the city of Bucksnort, southwest of Nashville.

Humphreys County Sheriff Chris Davis, in an emotional outburst, confirmed that 19 people are missing and that there is still no explanation for the cause of the explosion.

Aerial footage shows charred remains, smoking vehicles and almost nothing left of the industrial facility.

The explosion occurred shortly before 08:00 local time and was felt in several neighboring counties. Emergency crews were unable to immediately access the scene due to the continuous explosions.

According to WPLN News, the facility covers an area of ??about 1,300 acres and has completed over $100 million in federal contracts over the past two decades.

Journalist Cynthia Abrams described the explosion as "huge," citing residents who felt the shock up to 43 kilometers away.

Dr. Chris Shepherd from the University of Kent said that problems with explosives usually occur at the raw material stage, not in the final product. He explained that explosives such as TNT or nitrocellulose, when stabilized, are very safe for long-term storage. But in their raw form, they are “very dangerous.”

The BBC reports that four to five people were evacuated to hospital for medical treatment. Three patients presented themselves at TriStar Health Hospital in Dickson, where two have been released and another is being treated for minor injuries.

Local reports speak of other patients being treated in area hospitals.

The investigation is being led by Hickman and Humphreys County authorities, in cooperation with the ATF, FBI, Homeland Security and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.

In the same location, in 2014, a fatal explosion occurred at a facility operated by the Rio Ammunition company, killing one person and injuring three others.

Sheriff Davis described the scene as "one of the most devastating" he has ever seen: "There's nothing to describe, it's gone," he said of the facility.

The investigation is expected to take several days, as authorities prepare for another official update later in the day.
