Talks with the US fail, Russia reportedly wants more territory than it has occupied in Ukraine

Russia and the US have failed to agree on a joint statement despite 12 hours of talks in Saudi Arabia.

This development comes amid reports that Moscow demanded more Ukrainian territory than it currently controls during negotiations.

Moscow negotiator Grigory Karasin described the talks, in which the US hoped to broker a ceasefire in the Black Sea, as "not easy" and said "many problems were discussed".

Vladimir Chizhov, a Russian senator, blamed "Ukraine's position" after saying no declaration had been adopted.

Washington has so far remained silent on the outcome of the talks. Ukrainian officials are meeting again with Trump's team today in Riyadh.
