A 28-year-old girl who worked as a nanny for a 35-year-old businessman in Staten Island in the US has been awarded $4 million after the employer filmed some of her private moments using a hidden camera installed in a smoke detector .
A Manhattan court has ruled that Michael Esposito and his wife Danielle will have to pay $780,000 for emotional abuse to Kelly Andrade of Colombia, while Esposito will have to pay another $3 million in damages.
The ruling followed a lawsuit filed in 2021 by the 28-year-old nanny after she discovered the hidden camera in her bedroom in their Staten Island home.
According to local media , at that time, the nanny from Colombia reported to the police that Esposito had tried to enter her room when he realized that she had discovered the camera.
The 28-year-old explained in her deposition that the Esposito family had given her a room to stay in while she helped raise their children. However, when he saw the 38-year-old frequently adjusting the smoke detector, he suspected that something was wrong. So, three weeks after being hired she discovered the hidden camera.
According to the 28-year-old's lawsuit, the hidden camera has recorded hundreds of moments of her half-naked or completely naked.
