A press conference between US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu scheduled for this evening has been canceled, the White House has said.

The two leaders will continue to take questions in the Oval Office from a smaller group of reporters, the Trump administration added.

The White House did not give any explanation for why the press conference was canceled.

President Trump is under pressure over his tariff policy, which has sent shockwaves through global markets, and Netanyahu faces questions over the killing of 15 medical aid workers by Israeli troops in Gaza.

Whether Netanyahu's visit will succeed in reducing or eliminating Israel's tariffs remains to be seen, but how it unfolds could set the stage for how other world leaders try to address the new tariffs.

Trump greeted the Israeli prime minister with a firm handshake as he arrived for talks.
