The network of investigative journalists has reacted again to the attack being made on it by the Trump administration.

reaction

OCCRP has recently become the target of a conspiracy theory suggesting that we worked with one of our donors, USAID, to undermine President Donald Trump during his first administration.

This is simply untrue, because OCCRP does not work like that.

Here are the facts: One of our articles was cited in a complaint against President Donald Trump in 2019. The complaint subsequently led to his first impeachment.

That article, like all articles we write, was reported without the knowledge or input of our donors. OCCRP had no contact with the whistleblower and was not aware of the complaint until after it was reported by local U.S. media outlets. In OCCRP’s entire history, no one has disputed the accuracy of any of the facts, including the people we have written about. Meanwhile, those promoting conspiracy theories about our reporting have offered no evidence for their claims.

OCCRP is apolitical. We are funded by a variety of donors, including members of public and private institutions and development agencies in several democratic countries.

Our primary mission is to inform the public by exposing corruption and other forms of wrongdoing, and our reporting has helped return more than $11 billion to public coffers through seizures and fines. Our reporting has inspired reform and empowered citizens to hold corruption accountable. OCCRP has brought in at least ten times more money for the U.S. government than it has received in grants.

We are proud to expose truths that empower people to decide their own future, but we do not advocate for any specific political outcome or government – neither in the US nor anywhere.
