A minor girl of Albanian origin, who lives in the province of Ragusa, Italy, has been placed under community care, following suspicions of radicalization and the spread of jihadist content on social networks.
According to Italian authorities, the minor is suspected of publishing propaganda materials in support of the terrorist organization ISIS on TikTok, as well as content with extremist symbols and anti-Semitic messages. Her online activity attracted the attention of the Italian internal security services, AISI, which notified judicial authorities.
The investigation intensified after the seizure of her mobile phone in May. According to the Italian State Police, analysis of the device revealed material suspected of showing a process of radicalization, including content related to Islamic State propaganda, far-right symbolism and images that may have been created using artificial intelligence.
During the investigation, authorities claim that online contacts with people posing as ISIS members, as well as users promoting terrorist acts, were also discovered.
Her device allegedly contained propaganda videos depicting executions of prisoners, materials in support of the terrorist organization, and instructions for self-training and the production of homemade explosives.
According to the released data, the investigation also included checks at school. Authorities reported that the girl had changed some of her habits and had limited her socializing with peers.
The Juvenile Prosecutor's Office in Catania issued the security measure, which was executed by Digos, the Italian police unit that deals with terrorism and public security investigations.
She is suspected of training for terrorist purposes. The case remains under investigation and the charges against her must be assessed by the judiciary.
