In a wave of numerous changes to the immigration system, the administration of President Donald Trump has decided to significantly increase fees for foreigners seeking a Green Card in the United States through investment. This decision also affects Albanian citizens who intend to obtain a Green Card through the EB-5 investor program.

The changes affect the EB-5 program, which allows foreign investors and their families to seek permanent residency in the US if they invest at least $800,000 in designated areas or projects, or $1.05 million in other cases, while also meeting the requirement to create at least 10 jobs.

The new rules take effect on November 30, 2026, and increase some application fees by thousands of dollars.

The fee for the I-526 form, used by individual investors, increases from $3,675 to $7,615, more than doubling.

Investors applying through Regional Centers will also face higher costs. The fee for Form I-526E will increase to $7,850, while the additional fee associated with the program integrity fund will increase from $1,000 to $1,100.

According to Department of Homeland Security calculations, for existing forms affected by the change, the weighted average fee increase amounts to about 70.7%, or approximately $2,946 more per application.

US authorities argue that the new fees are needed to cover the costs of administering the program, processing applications, and controlling abuses.

The change is also important for Albanians who are preparing such an application. Applications posted on or after November 30, 2026 must be accompanied by the new fees, while those posted before this date will be subject to the current fees.

This is another change in immigration policies during the Trump administration, but the measure does not affect every Albanian seeking a Green Card in the US. It specifically applies to Albanians and citizens of other countries who follow the Green Card path through EB-5 investment./ MaShqip
