The leader of the Freedom Party, Ilir Meta, has reacted again to the absurd situation that is taking place at the Special Court of First Instance, where none of the trials for security measures and those of the foundation are being held, because the lawyers have boycotted work.

He says that the escalation of the conflict between the First Instance Court of Appeals and the National Chamber of Advocates was not only completely unnecessary, but also avoidable, as the Court of Appeals Regulation was approved on July 17, 2026, made public on July 31, 2026, and entered into force on September 1, 2026.

"Dozens of postponed trials, which are accompanied by delays in trials, violation of regular legal processes, violation of the economic rights of lawyers, but also of the state itself, which pays for the escort of detainees from district prisons in Tirana, in addition to the costs of the accused citizens and their families.

"But the continued deliberate silence by the Parliament and the Government speaks more than the conflict itself. This deliberate silence becomes even sarcastic these days when the Government is lecturing us about human rights and the importance of the role of lawyers in criminal proceedings," writes Ilir Meta.

The Chairman of the Freedom Party emphasizes that in this situation, the Parliament can no longer remain indifferent, but must promote dialogue between the parties and intervene concretely in the Law on Advocacy in favor of regular judicial processes and the provision of justice as soon as possible for hundreds of thousands of files awaiting justice, to put an end to this deliberate, absurd, unreasonable and undermining chaos for public trust in justice.

"This is my consistent public stance, which has been accompanied by institutional actions by the Chairman of the Freedom Party Parliamentary Group, Mr. Tedi Blushi, since September 24, 2026.

As an interested person (as I expressed in writing and verbally before the First Instance Criminal Court), I not only participated in every session, but I also expressed my clear will to continue the trial against me based on the Code of Criminal Procedure.

Surprisingly, the Prosecutor requested the suspension of my pre-trial detention, but did not request the appointment of a lawyer.

Even the Court surprisingly accepts the Prosecutor's absurd request, suspends the detention periods, but does not assign a lawyer primarily (according to the Criminal Procedure Code) precisely because of this institutional impasse with clear political direction.

"This has nothing to do with the Justice Reform approved on July 21, 2016, but with its alienation in Ramaforma," continues Ilir Meta.
