The case of Greta Gjoci (Pepa) is taking on increasingly worrying proportions, while a mother with a four-month-old baby was sent this Wednesday to the women's prison in Pojska.

According to information confirmed by Vox News, Greta Pepa was escorted to the prison today, accompanied by her 4-month-old baby.

Just two days ago, on October 5, the Appeals Court of Kosovo upheld the first instance decision, ultimately sentencing him to 6 years and 8 months in prison for "computer fraud" within a structured criminal group and "participation in a structured criminal group."

According to data confirmed by VoxNews, Greta Pepa worked as a call center operator. She does not appear to have been the owner of the call center nor the leader of the group. In the file for which she was convicted, Bruno Çobo is identified as the leader of the group, who received the highest sentence, 8 years in prison, while the employee Greta Gjoci was sentenced to 6 years and 8 months.

However, due to the way the structured criminal group charge was filed, the call center operator received a 10-year sentence (6.8 years with a shortened trial) as a member of the same criminal structure.

So, a woman who worked as a telephone operator ends up legally within the same criminal structure as the people who organized the scheme.

Another detail confirmed by Vox News relates to Greta Pepa's financial situation. She has been living in a rented apartment for years.

The fact that Greta Pepa lives in a rented house does not legally exempt her from criminal liability, but it is an element that raises questions about her role and concrete benefit from the scheme for which she was convicted.

The scandal deepens even further, as Greta Pepa was not free until the Appeals Court decision.

The security measure "house arrest" was executed against her on July 27, 2023, which means that until this week she had spent more than three years under complete restriction of freedom.

But this was not enough for the trio of judges, Dhimitër Lara, Fjorela Davidhi and Engert Pllumbi, causing the house arrest measure to be followed by the execution of the prison sentence.

The sight of a mother entering a prison with a four-month-old baby raises a question that is no longer only related to Greta Pepa's guilt, but practically the Appeal of the GJKKO has also sent the 4-month-old baby to prison.

In Albania, there are dozens of organizations, associations, and civil society structures that publicly declare that they protect women, mothers, and children.

But when a mother with a four-month-old baby is sent to prison along with the child, these associations that have embezzled hundreds of thousands of euros have disappeared today.

These organizations that protect the rights of women and children are expected to at least raise the question of whether the best interests of a four-month-old baby were respected in this case and whether all the mechanisms that Albanian law itself offers for such a situation were used.

Because today, not only is a woman going to prison, a 4-month-old baby is also going to Poiskë.
