Millions of the Osmani clan have attracted attention since the 1980s, when the family took control of Hamburg's red-light district. The first to emigrate from Albania to Germany was Qazim Osmani, alias Felix, and after a few years he was followed by his brothers Bashkimi, Bekimi, Blerim and sister Merita. This is known as "bajrat", or family clan.

In the 1990s, say those investigated, they had links to Serbian criminal gangs, who opened up the large-scale cocaine trafficking market.

The DEA, FBI, NCA, as well as police from all over the world dreamed of catching them. They were under police target for decades.

The Osmani clan is linked to several killings in South America and to large drug suppliers from Bolivia, Colombia and Brazil. It has to do with illegal immigration, with control of the port of Hamburg and Prague casinos. With prostitution in Germany, Austria, the Balkans, the Czech Republic and the United Kingdom. With businesses in Hel Angeles MC and Calabrian N'Draghetan. With the Turkish clan Kalic, dedicated to the trafficking of acetic anhydride and heroin. With the Ratja clan that supplies material to Albanian mafias.

The Osmani clan is linked to a range of crimes and dangerous relationships, as well as the constant money laundering and corruption of politicians, characteristics of a large criminal organization.

After so many years, the first clue came through two paths. The DEA informed the National Police, specifically the GRECO of Galicia, that "an old acquaintance" was preparing a large consignment of cocaine from Colombia. On the other hand, the German Prosecution in Lübeck also announced about this shipment, in whose request for investigation also participated the Information Group of the Majorca Civil Guard.

It was 2018 and for more than three years they were being persecuted by many countries. Three months ago the investigation culminated with the intervention of 603 agents in Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, Spain and Croatia. Bashkim Osmani, the main investigator, is now in prison while investigations into the case continue.

THREE YEARS PREPARING A DELIVERY

According to agents, it took the clan three years to carry a load.

The shipment began to be conceived in 2017 in Palma de Mallorca. Two men, Arturi and Myftari, propose "business" to Bashkim Osmani and his brother Bekim. This meeting, in which it is decided to finance a drug operation, would be attended by many others.

The first payment for Osman was made in Hamburg through Toni, the Union brother-in-law, in order for the clan to authorize the operation. This, as an indicator of respect. In Italy the first details begin to take shape.

In 2018, one of those who proposed the business to the Ottomans, Arthur, returns to Mallorca. Microphones installed in the car make it clear that the group is talking about drugs. Later, in Florence, they think about how to bring drugs from Colombia. It is decided that the solution to extract cocaine from South America will be made by a ship in Suriname. They will bring half a ton with 4000 euros per kilogram, maybe 5000 euros with all the expenses.

SHIP

Preparations continue on the exotic island of Aruba, in the Dutch Antilles, to concretize the details of the boat trip.

The plan is this: A fishing boat will leave Suriname and 300 miles from the shore will transfer the cargo to a tourist boat, which will continue the voyage to Barcelona. The idea was to take it from there to Albania and then distribute it throughout Europe.

In 2019, the meetings will continue. In Antwerp they close the details with the "final beneficiaries" of the shipment, whom agents manage to identify.

In Frankfurt, it is decided that Arthur will travel to Monaco.

As soon as he arrives in the Principality, he deals with the concretization of deadlines, payments, logistics, etc. So he meets a supplier of fruits, vegetables and ... tourist boats, like the one they need to bring drugs to Spain.

The next meeting is also in rich Monte Carlon, where Arthur completes the assignment of tasks for all the soldiers below him.

A little later, in Mallorca, Arthur and Myftari (the other man who proposed the business two years ago) meet again with Bashkim Osmani and inform him about everything they have prepared.

And we come to the end of the negotiations, already in the summer of 2019: In Mallorca Bashkim Osmani and the men identified by Italy as the "final beneficiaries" meet again for the first time in three years. After the blessing of the chief, the boat departs for Barcelona.

There, in January 2020, 441 kilograms of cocaine were seized.

Why did they wait from the summer of 2019 until January 2020 to bring drugs? Due to the "trade winds", the agents believe, which at that time blew in the east and made navigation easier.

They were many years under the magnifying glass. But it was only in 2018, when that cocaine shipment was investigated, that one of the leading criminal organizations in Europe began to be beheaded. However, Osmani was not arrested in the Barcelona operation. We had to wait another two years.

After this operation, another 600 kilograms of pure cocaine were seized in Albania. Osmani continued with his base in Mallorca, where he continued meetings only by talking face to face, at his reserved restaurant table, or traveling for personal meetings. He only sent highly trusted people to follow the procedures and never spoke on the phone.

In 2021 he began preparing a new shipment of drugs.

arrest

On 16 February 2022, coordinated by Europol and Eurojust, hundreds of agents including the police and the Civil Guard arrested 9 people in Spain, 33 in Belgium, 2 in the Netherlands and 2 in Croatia. They simultaneously raided 19 homes in Spain, 49 in Belgium, 2 in the Netherlands, 3 in Italy, 3 in Croatia and 7 in Germany. They seized weapons, drugs, money, paintings, cryptocurrencies, jewelry, luxury cars and documents.

The union was in Croatia that day, where it was reported that a court in Mallorca was seeking his extradition. Convinced of his innocence and perhaps fed up with the fiasco, he surrendered and agreed to come to Spain smiling.

The importance of Osmani is summed up in a few words by the chief inspector Emilio Rodríguez, the head of GRECO in Galicia: “His organization controlled absolutely everything, from contacts with large suppliers to the final purge of profits. And there are very few people like that. "This is also the reason for the increase of gangs in the East, especially in the Balkans."
