Cocaine clash between Albanian groups troubles Belgian town where Bledar

Just a few days ago, the suburb of Antwerp, Borgerhout, was rocked by an explosion around 4 a.m. The third such attack in just one week, causing significant damage to the front of the target house.

Police, Sedee Dovo, Belgium's bomb disposal service was called to the scene: the road, Ledeganckstraat, was closed. The explosive device, which appeared to have targeted the basement of the property, is reported to be a simple traditional improvised explosive device based on fireworks, or military-language IED.

At the beginning of the same week, an apartment building in Generaal de Wetstraat, also in Borgerhout, was targeted for two nights in a row. Attacks can be linked to gang rivalry: Antwerp is a major centre for international cocaine smuggling.

"This is more intimidating for the people of Borgerhout. They have begun to feel unsafe in their homes and on their streets.... The whole approach to the drug problem requires serious thought... I mainly see what's happening in the neighborhood and See fear in my neighbors and myself. I think it's necessary to work with the police that are accessible; The police officer from the past, who knows the neighborhood from the first and who is on the road by bike or on foot, has been gradually removed," says Mayor Marij Preneel.

Most of the cocaine being trafficked through Antwerp is believed to come from Colombia. However, Albanians are believed to be carriers and it is clear that the war on drugs is on.

In February this year, an Albanian man with a counterfeit British passport was shot dead outside his home in Antwerp, amid a bloody battle for the management of the lucrative drug trade in the Belgian metropolis, which has turned him into the European cocaine capital.

Beldar Muça, shot six times as he returned to his residence saturday night, a few metres from a police station, by two killers, with authorities claiming she had all the hallmarks of a bespoke murder.

Muça, 39, was filmed in 2016 waving a pistol and shooting at police and officers. He had been in Antwerp for the first time since 2014 working as a key member of an Albanian gang operating within the port, which has emerged because the epicentre of cocaine was smuggled into Britain and the rest of Europe from South America.

Historically known for buying and selling diamonds, Antwerp is said to be now being invaded by Albanian gangsters with the city's streets filled with money and police waging a losing battle from the beginning.
