Note: "I fall the strongest and cut into the middle, and Erioni Kolonje seems giant to him. I fall for myself, I do not do it by order, with the greatest pleasure, and in the name of the people of Albania, sacrifices. Bastard, who thinks he can turn Albania into a cavilabs" lab.
This was the language Ilir Meta used at Wednesday's press conference. To find a similar language of his we must return to the campaign for the elections in 2017, but even at that time apart from the harsh tones, the content was softer.
The current rhetoric used by him mostly approaches the one used in 2011, when the late Dritan Priest published the famous video of the 7 per cent. The priest accused Meta of looking like he was involved in corruptive affairs.
In fact, there are a host of accusations on the President's back, which have been going on since the late 1990s and early new millenniums, when Meta was the country's Prime Minister. He is accused of robbing gold in Krraba and the charge is pronounced by Sali Berisha, his ally today. He has been charged with misuse of tenders, abuses of international aid, as well as CEZ-DIA.
In all these cases, sometimes calmly and lovingly, and sometimes without calm and love and sometimes protected by Berisha, Ilir Meta has come out washed. He has either not been investigated, or in judgment, as in the case of the Video of The Priest Light has emerged innocent in an alleged legal process as manipulated by power at the time.
All these accusations of files on his back add a new one; That of the State Security associate. Meta denies it, but the people say where there is nothing and if you follow all the former president's rhetoric after the file is published by the File Authority, it adds to your doubts.
At first he said that the I.M. the Authority was talking about was not him, but another person. He then said that he himself personally knew 40-50 I.M. When the Authority mentioned by name the adjective that the I.M. for which he had sent the request to the Assembly was precisely the former President, accusing him of manipulation threatened with holding responsibility for this manipulation.
The Socialists set in motion in the Assembly and formalized the legal initiative to open the files of persons who have been suspiciously equipped with certificates of purity of the figure. Meta is one of them.
After that, Meta allegedly publicly challenged the Socialists to directly open the file they were talking about, convinced it was clean. This challenge, more than seriously, was for media consumption. Meta knows that under the law the file the Authority says it has to him cannot open anyone but him and the person who spied, the roommate at the university. Even this file can't even open the Authority itself.
Meta allegedly spied on State Security Philip Talos' plan to escape from the country before the fall of communism. The plan failed and Talo ended up in insurance hands. Philip Talo himself has withdrawn the file in question from the File Authority. Why doesn't Meta do the same thing, make it public and tell Albanians that the I.M., which the Authority is talking about is not him?
Instead, the former President took his political creature, the LSI, changed his name and launched a patriotic and reference campaign. He vows to return decision-making to Albanians and speaks of foreign agents and anti-national policies aimed at the depopulation of Albania.
Started by the flow of rhetoric that followed the publicization of his State Security dossier, even in this case patriotism expressed in nearly nationalist language is a tool meta is using to achieve the goal, stopping the public making of the dossier it has. That's why he's been talking about hurricanes and technical governments since September, when the Socialists say they'll change the law for files, opening pie pets for him.
So, just as lsi turned into the Freedom Party, just as he moved from left to left in the political program, just as he became a patriot, Ilir Meta is about to turn into a nationalist. Therefore, a former spy accused of great corruptive affairs cannot be called a patriot. He can be called a nationalist, if he chooses to transform himself fully as such. In this case, an expression says: Nationalism is the last refuge of bastards!
