"I have a right to say to those women, those friends, those sisters: Aren't you ashamed to say that you are relatives, that you are the mothers, that you are the sisters of those vandals who threw the national flag like a rag in front of all Albanians? Aren't you ashamed to say that you are the mothers and that you are the sisters of those villains, of those unwashed people, who hit the policemen, who had only one goal: how to avoid harming the aggressors".
This is what Ilir Meta declared in the Assembly on January 23, 2011, two days after four Socialist Party protesters were killed on the boulevard, who were called to protests after the video denunciation of the late Dritan Prifti was shown in public.
Today, more than 11 years since this tragic event, which was sparked by a video with voice and picture showing Ilir Meta, according to the accusations that were sparked while he was making corrupt deals inside the office of the Deputy Prime Minister, the position he held at the time, Ilir Meta appeals to the 'hairdressers'.
"We will fold Edi Rama. They will take all the powers. We will not let Edi Rama trample the rights of Albanian citizens quietly and brutally. I will be there myself in front of the Parliament, together with all the Albanian citizens", declared Ilir Meta from Berat, vowing that he will be at the forefront of the anti-corruption battle that has started.
Ironically, the protest was called under the banner of anti-corruption, just as Edi Rama called the protest of January 21, 2011. Ilir Meta called the protesters of January 21, 11 years ago, fools. The question is, has the Meta changed, or have the protesters changed and now they are no longer open-minded.
