The Democratic Party has expelled 26 figures since its establishment, but only in two cases were the exclusions made by the presidents.
The cases are in 2006, when Sali Berisha expelled Spartak Njjela and in 2021 when Lulzim Basha expelled Sali Berisha.
The reasons for the exceptions are different. Spartak Ngjela was expelled from Sali Berisha for being critical of him, while Lulzim Basha expelled Sali Berisha in September of last year after he was declared non grata by the USA.
Other exceptions are the Presidency, the National Council and the Conference. The name list of exceptions opens with the late Gramoz Pashko, since 1992, for criticism of the party's leadership.
Part of it are names that returned to the blue headquarters, such as Genc Pollo. Genc Ruli, Tritan Shehu, or Ferdinand Xhaferri, but also others who continued their political career with new parties, such as Dashamir Shehi, or left politics.
In 13 cases, exemptions were obtained against persons who tried to create support groups within the party against its leadership, in 7 cases for criticism of the leadership. Mhill Fufi is the only one expelled for rejecting the boycott and Berisha the only one with the reason of not being a woman.
Azem Hajdari is the only one expelled on the grounds of creating a critical initiative in the party and Petrit Kalakula the only one for extremist statements. The year 1997 is the year of great exceptions, full of 9 such. 6 are the exceptions in 2000, when Genc Pollo, Tritan Shehu and others then created the New Democratic Party, and five are the exceptions in 1992.
Of the decisions, 4 were taken during the leadership of the DP by Lulzim Basha and 25 others during its leadership by Sali Berisha.
