Data from the Institute of Statistics regarding trade exchanges during the month of February 2024, in terms of imports, show that the first two countries leading the list have remained unchanged. Italy continues to hold the first place with 20.6% of the total imports in our country. Compared to February 2023, the share of imports was fixed at 24.1%, thus reflecting a significant decrease. In second place as the country with the largest weight of imported goods in Albania, Turkey is confirmed with 16.9% of the total, from about 11.1% that this country weighed in the country's imports in the same period of 2023. Meanwhile, China has lost a position ranking in third place with 7.8% of the total share of imports from 11.6% it occupied a year ago.
On the other hand, countries such as Germany, Greece, India and Serbia, which are ranked 5th, 6th and 7th respectively, continue to maintain the same positions. Specifically, the share of these countries in total imports in our country is 7.7%, 7.5%, 3% and 2.2%
'Scan Intel' has analyzed the data to understand how imports with partner countries have changed this time not only in annual terms, but also during the last 4 years to understand the effects of the crisis. If we compare the situation of trade exchanges with the pre-crisis period, which coincides with 2021, we notice that Italy and Turkey are listed as the two countries that occupy the largest weight, followed by Germany, China and Greece that have exchanged with one the other over the years sometimes losing positions and sometimes gaining. After the five main countries, the figures show a significant decrease in imports from Poland, which in 2023 enjoyed the eighth place and this year this country closes the classification of the top 10 countries, being placed last in the ranking. Meanwhile, countries like South Korea and the United States represent only 2% and 2.1% of total imports. Compared to 2021, i.e. the period before the price crisis, we see that in February of the current year we have South Korea as one of the ten main trading partners.
At the end of the analysis, we conclude that, in general, the weight of imports of the main partners has decreased from year to year, allowing the entry of new partners.
