From doctors to teachers, the 6 categories that benefit from salary increases

Public administration employees will benefit from a salary increase starting on July 1, 2024. And while the average monthly gross salary in the state sector for the last quarter of 2023 was recorded at 87,864 ALL, the government's intention is that with this increase, the average salary in the state to reach 900 euros per month.

But what are the categories that will benefit from a change in salary this year?

The health sector will have new salaries. Thus further salary increases will benefit general practitioners, nurses and other health workers.

Also, there will be growth in the education sector, where teachers in pre-university education will mainly benefit.

A salary increase is also provided for law enforcement and defense forces, as well as employees at the executive levels in the central administration.

This year, the reform will also be extended to local government employees, whose salaries are at low levels in relation to central institutions.

Regarding the amount of the supplement, in the 2024 budget, for nearly 36 thousand educational employees of the Pre-University Educational System, a salary increase of 23-36% of the gross salary is foreseen. About 18,858 employees of the Health System benefit from an increase of 26-34% of the gross salary; About 22,500 Grada system employees are expected to benefit from an average 30% salary increase per grade for 2024.

In total, the annual effect for financing the wage reform is calculated at nearly 40 billion ALL, or 400 million Euros. The wage reform launched two years ago aims to increase competition in the labor market, also encouraging wage growth in the private sector.
