The census of the population in the field is completed, the verification continues until the end of December

The Institute of Statistics (INSTAT) has announced that the process of the Population and Housing Census 2023 has been completed.

INSTAT is continuing the work on field verification of housing status and refusals, until November 24.

To assess the quality of the process and coverage, from November 20 to December 20, 2023, INSTAT will organize the Post-Census Survey according to the recommendations of the United Nations and the European Union, in 100 Enumeration Areas, distributed throughout the country. This process will engage 100 surveyors and 25 inspectors who will knock on the doors of the citizens, in the selected areas.

The data collection started on September 18, 2023 and was originally expected to take 6 weeks to finish at the end of October, but it seems that the initial time was not enough, causing the process to be extended until November 15.

The 2023 Population and Housing Census will be the 12th Census, since Albania was declared an independent state in 1912, where the first Census was carried out in 1923. Since the 1989 Census, its methodology has always followed and more the international recommendations for conducting the Census.

The 2023 Population and Housing Census aims to be in full compliance with the recommendations of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) for the 2020 round of Censuses and also with the latest EU regulations for the implementation of the Population Census and Apartments.

The Census of Population and Housing provides data on the official population count in a country, in the smallest geographical unit, together with information on a selected number of demographic, social and economic characteristics of the population.

Similarly, the Census of Housing provides the official count of all dwellings in the country in the smallest geographic unit, along with information on a selected number of housing characteristics.
