After the Population Census, INSTAT has started the preparatory phase for the implementation of the Agriculture Census, which will play a decisive role in updating the necessary statistical information at the local and regional level and reflecting the changes that have occurred in this sector in more than a decade. Referring to the annual plan for the implementation of the official statistics program, the field implementation of the Agricultural Census is planned to be carried out during the period October-December 2024.
A module of questions has been prepared, which were included in the questionnaire of the Census of Population and Housing, in order to create a list of agricultural farms, which will serve as a basis for selection for the next census of agriculture, due to the lack of a register farm administration.
Trained surveyors will visit agricultural economic units throughout the country to collect data based on the Cens questionnaire. Standardized procedures will be followed to maintain confidentiality and accuracy throughout the data collection process. The Agricultural Census will provide information on specific modules, on all agricultural farms, related to: irrigation, land management practices, machinery and equipment and horticulture, which derive from the implementation of the European Commission regulations on Structural Surveys of Farms, with reference year 2023, for EU member countries.
INSTAT will use modern IT technology to prepare and conduct the Census in the field in a reliable, efficient and cost-effective manner. Investments in hardware, software and IT capacity building will strengthen the general environment of INSTAT and will provide sustainable solutions for the realization of other agricultural statistical surveys.
The Census of Agriculture will also provide data on the structure of agriculture, especially for small administrative units.
INSTAT will also use the available sources of administrative data for the preparation of the Census as well as for quality controls. INSTAT will also cooperate with other institutions, especially with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development for the creation of a reliable and updated framework/list to be used for field data collection.
A dedicated communication strategy will be developed and finalized for the Census of Agriculture, which aims to raise awareness and highlight the importance of the Census of Agriculture to the target audience.
