Turkey has been one of the most important foreign investors in Albania in recent decades, and the value of Turkish investments has been continuously increasing in recent years. According to statistics from the Bank of Albania, in mid-2024, the stock of Turkish investments reached the value of 1.16 billion euros.

In the last decade, the value of Turkish investments has increased by more than three times.

However, the growth in the investment stock is not only related to new flows, but also to exchange rate changes, price changes and other changes.

This means that the stock of foreign investment is periodically revalued, also reflecting changes in asset prices. For this reason, the stock of investment for a sector or foreign investor can often increase, regardless of the performance of new flows.

Based on the methodologies used to measure foreign investment, new flows are valued at the average exchange rate of the period, while the stock is valued at the rate of the last day of the period.

In fact, during the first half of 2024, Turkey was the largest foreign investor in terms of new Foreign Direct Investment flows. According to data from the Bank of Albania, for the first 6 months of the year, investments by companies with Turkish capital reached 146 million euros, an increase of 115% compared to the same period a year earlier.

Turkish companies play an important role in the Albanian economy, especially in the financial sector, the energy sector, the extractive industry, and even construction.

Some of the most important Turkish investors in Albania are the Çalik group in the National Commercial Bank, the Yildirim group in Albchrome, Ayen Enerji in Ayen AS Energji, Kurum in Kurum International, etc.
