An important item in the 2025 draft budget is the agriculture sector, which did not benefit properly a year ago. The sector that employs about 33% of Albanians is expected to have a funding increase of 4.8% for this institution than this year's plan finalized in the normative act for the amendment of the 2024 budget.
From ALL 13.9 billion in 2024, the budget for one of the main sectors of the country's economy is expected to reach ALL 14.6 billion.
More money is going towards support measures for agricultural and livestock production. Although 7.2 billion lek will be for farmers and ranchers, it is still a smaller budget than in 2023.
A slight increase is the support for agricultural land management and consultancy. While almost the same amount of money will be spent on food security and the management of drainage and irrigation infrastructure.
Although decreasing from year to year, the contribution of agriculture to GDP is one of the largest, reaching 16.2%.
For decades, agriculture has suffered from a lack of financing, especially from banks, because it is a business exposed to many risks, such as floods or hailstorms that damage production.
But from the middle of 2023 until now, agriculture is also facing a lack of IPARD funds, and there is still no decision from the EU to unlock this support.
