Today, at his funeral, Professor Servet Pëllumbi delivered his last lecture. The narrative of the deceased lecturing seems gothic in appearance, but is essentially realistic.

In this funeral procession, Albanian society had the opportunity to recall a series of values ??of the Professor, values ??that are not seen only as individual traits, but as missing models for the political class and perhaps even for society as a whole.

Servetus Pëllumbi remained faithful to his Marxist convictions, but without being dogmatic. He saw Marx as a philosopher, not as a standard bearer, while maintaining a constant tendency for moderation and critical perspective.

This stance contrasts sharply with those politicians who in the early 1990s became communists and anti-communists, as if they were not men with axes, but wind vanes that turn according to the wind of power. The Professor's integrity is a clear lesson: politics needs a backbone, not wind vanes.

As leader of the Socialist Party in difficult times, and later, as Speaker of the Parliament, he showed that prudence and compromise are more valuable than harsh and dogmatic rhetoric. At a time when extreme polarization is eroding society, this model of balance is a compass that Albanian politics must restore.

Professor Pëllumbi gave space to internal democracy, without suppressing free speech. He understood well that debate is the oxygen of politics. This is a necessary lesson for today's parties, where the culture of open discussion is often lacking and where decisions are made in closed rooms by one or a handful of people.

Servet Pëllumbi knew how to pave the way for new generations, retiring with dignity when the time came, unlike a series of current politicians who are not uprooted from their armchairs. He embodied a way of being in public life, where respect, reflection and prudence were the foundation. This ethical code is a high standard that Albanian politics risks losing.

In the last lecture, the Professor told us once again that politics is not a theater of servility, but public service; it is not a game of flags, but an attitude of empty conviction; it is not noise, but reflection. It is up to us to listen attentively to lectures of this nature so that we do not experience the departure of valuable people as a loss, but as a legacy.
