The holiday season has been underway for a few weeks. In development, it seems to have defied the high temperatures that have not dampened the tourist boom of recent years despite all the unresolved problems. The country's Prime Minister, Edi Rama, has taken a sudden tri-polar action that few expected.

If we are used to the fact that during the summer season, politics with each of its institutions takes a break from the annual dynamics - this summer for the decision-makers elected by the citizens will be different. Thus giving us a message that there is no time to waste and the changes but also the successive movements that must follow the rhythm of Europe will not end there.

The latest action in question is precisely related to a topic that touches and increases the sensitivity of the citizen but brings on the other hand a boost in awareness for another level of living standards. Such can be considered the latest initiative for 'cleaning' at the national level, including the environment, beaches and administration. Three poles in which Albania is constantly encountering difficulties in finding and maintaining a balance.

The first two - the environment and the beaches - are not simply about preserving the image of the country, especially in recent times where Albania is becoming an increasingly popular destination for tourists, but also about social awareness where each of us has our own role, not just individual, in the community that surrounds us.

For years, our focus has not been sufficiently concentrated in this sector, where although we may have a slight improvement in the situation, coexistence in the community has been challenging. Finding a common language in our post-communist Balkan mindset is sometimes exhausting and cooperation in the community among us is considered extremely difficult.

In a society that is accustomed to living with the cult of the individual, unlike Western societies raised with civil rights and the values of its integrity, there is no way it could happen otherwise. And precisely the first cooperation between us must begin with the responsibility we have towards preserving the environment. At most, a point overlooked generation after generation, with the thought that as long as my house is in order, the street outside does not have what I need.

It should be the opposite!

Beyond the cleaning action, another initiative has been echoed these days. The 'attack' to free as many public territories as possible - a legal right for all of us. Tirana, mostly occupied in territories, caused stress and chaos to the citizen. The capital, a metropolis with almost 1 million inhabitants, suffers every hour of the day from this urban disorganization syndrome, where walking freely in the city appears as a challenge in itself while public spaces are becoming rarer.

Beaches, on the other hand, have been a fundamental problem of our reality for years. The race to be the first to seize a public territory has been fierce, due to the negligence of the relevant authorities. Not far from us, we can see countries like Montenegro or Greece that have invested years in respecting public spaces – spaces that are protected and regulated based on legal rules and logical reasoning; without leading to disputes and even damage to the image. If tourism is being talked about so much as an extremely important sector in the country (and among the only ones), it is necessary as soon as possible that, along with the establishment of a culture that comes with the times, infrastructural and administrative initiatives be undertaken for the benefit of a stable governance. But not only that, such are also needed in terms of order and security.

And in addition to these initiatives in the development of the tourism sector, the countryside should not be left behind, the development of agriculture, which if invested in, will reduce the import of products/goods, while increasing domestic development.

Administration - the third corner of this action seemed like a completely unexpected initiative. Even though the political season begins in September, the "cleansing" and reformatting of local government apparently needed a new direction. At the same time, raising the question that the decentralization reform is failing and local government is often seen as acting with 'cifligje'.

But these three points are not spontaneous decisions of Prime Minister Rama himself. It is quite clear that these are initiatives of a macro policy and clearly noticeable from the group of chapters already opened. Because the EU views these issues with equally careful attention.

The organization of cities, the separation of public and non-public areas, environmental protection, and local administration - these are almost topics that a European country has long since completed.

These affect not only politics but also citizen awareness - a culture that must begin to emerge in our country and where the common interest must prevail over the personal one.
