MP Agron Shehaj's recent statements about planned investments in the Narta area have opened a strong public debate.

In my opinion, he is presenting a one-sided picture, talking only about complaints and not explaining to citizens what is actually planned to be built in that area.

According to the public statements of the Investor, the project aims to create an economic zone where at least 12 factories will be built, giving Vlora a new industrial dimension. One of them will be a factory for the assembly of tractors and other agricultural equipment from the HATTAT brand, which would create the opportunity for the state to subsidize Albanian farmers with machinery at more favorable costs and increase the competitiveness of Albanian agriculture.

There has also been talk of interest from high-tech companies, which aim to transfer technology and create jobs for young Albanians. If these investments are realized, Vlora would become not only a tourism center, but also a manufacturing and technology center.

However, Agron Shehaj has chosen to speak only about the claim that "Narta is being sold" and that the area is being given to Turkish actor Burak. He does not explain that, according to the project's supporters, it is a privately owned area where industrial investments are envisaged and not tourist resorts.

He does not talk about the factories that are expected to be built, the new jobs that could be created, the possibility of higher wages in the industry, even according to the project's supporters almost double the wages in his call center, or the potential for Vlora to attract advanced technology investments. Also mentioned is the construction of a center for Turkish cinematographic productions, a project that, according to its supporters, could also positively affect the development of the Albanian film industry.

In my opinion, politics should not hinder the economic development of the city. Debate is necessary, but it should be based on facts and transparency, not just accusations and political interpretations.

If the Jalli e Narta area is private property and its owners have chosen to invest in establishing factories that do not pollute the environment and creating new jobs, then this should be discussed on the basis of the concrete project and its economic impact, not on political rhetoric.

Vlora needs investments, industry, technology and jobs. Citizens deserve to hear the whole truth about every project, with its benefits and concerns, in order to create their own conviction. In my opinion, before Agron Shehaj comes out with his denunciations, he should explain to the citizens of Vlora and the entire public opinion that the Jalli e Narta area is a swamp area, which today does not have the necessary infrastructure. According to public statements about the project, no tourist resorts are foreseen there, but industrial investments that aim to create new jobs and promote economic development.

If these investments are realized, they could create jobs in the industry, which, according to the project’s supporters, will offer higher wages than those typically offered in its call center sector. For this reason, I believe that the debate should focus on the impact that these investments could have on the economy of Vlora and Albania, based on facts and transparency.
