The Court of Appeal with General Jurisdiction, Tirana, has upheld the decision of the First Instance Court of Lezha for the life sentence of Kristjan Cenaj, accused of the murder of 16-year-old Mariglen Gjonaj in Mamurras.
The prosecution had also requested the "application of the security period" which means that "even after serving 35 years in prison, he should not be given the opportunity for parole", but this was not accepted by the court. The legal representatives of the Gjonaj family requested an expansion of the investigation, as they claimed that other people were involved in this crime.
The minor disappeared without a trace in 2017, while the perpetrator had buried his body in the Fushë-Kuqe area and was found 7 years later. Cenaj is accused of "theft resulting in death", while the incident is suspected to have occurred over a Rolex watch that the minor was wearing and that the perpetrator, according to investigations, robbed from him.
