Gjon Shkambi , the man accused by the Tirana Prosecution Office of inciting his nephew Elsiv Shkëmbi to kill the judge who was handling their property case, will return to the scene of the crime. On Monday, October 27, he will appear before the Court of Appeal to request his release.

Gjon Shkambi is currently under the security measure "Arrest in prison", just like his nephew, but Elvis has not appealed, agreeing with the measure given by the First Instance Court.

Banush Koxhaj, the security guard at the Court of Appeals, who was arrested on charges of abuse of office after failing to search people who entered the courthouse with weapons, despite the scanner signaling, has also requested a more lenient security measure.

Judge Astrit Kalaja was shot dead in the courtroom on the afternoon of October 7, 2025, as soon as he delivered a verdict on behalf of the Republic.

The parties to the process were Gjon Shkambi and Elvis Shkambi, who are seeking the release of the premises of a property they own in Shkodra from around 16 families who occupied it more than 20 years ago and refuse to leave.

Immediately after the announcement of the decision by Judge Astrit Kalaja, citizen Elvis Shkambi, who was in the courtroom, pulled a pistol from his belt and fired several times at the judge, who fell to the ground as a result of the shots.

After this action, the 30-year-old pointed the pistol at citizens Rakip Kurtaj and Ervis Kurtaj, who attempted to leave the courtroom, and fired a firearm (pistol) at them. Immediately afterwards, the suspected perpetrator handed the pistol over to the court security officer and, after going out into the yard, was caught red-handed by the services of Police Commissariat No. 1, Tirana.

The judge was transported by ambulance to the Tirana Trauma Hospital, but died on the way, while the other two injured parties, after receiving specialized medical assistance, are out of danger.
