"Complex verifications", GJKKO extends the detention period for Laert

The Special Court has accepted SPAK 's request to extend the detention period for Laert Haxhiu , suspected of being the leader of a criminal group accused of 13 serious criminal acts, including murder, destruction of property with explosives and violent robbery , by three months .

The extension of the " prison arrest " measure against him, while the accused as part of the criminal group are in the trial phase at the Special Court, was requested by SPAK due to the need for several complex verifications.

According to the decision of special judge Erion Bani , the detention has therefore been extended until October 3, 2025.

In the same decision, the Special Court also extended the detention period for Firdeus Berberi , the same person who was arrested with Haxhiu in Greece in May 2023, bringing the deadline to November.

Initially, the security measures of " prison arrest " against them were ordered by the Elbasan court, and then verified by the Special Court.

Although the SPKA has taken measures to avoid jeopardizing the expungement and modification of the measure for Haxhiu, he is currently serving a life sentence imposed by the Special Appeals Court as the perpetrator of the event known as the " Lushnja massacre " in 2017.

According to the Appeal, in the planned and implemented assassination attempt to kill Xhulio Shkurti , the nephew of Aldo Bare, Zamir Latifi and Jurgen Hoxha were killed and two others were injured. Orges Bilbili and Anterio Kaloshi are also serving life sentences for the same incident .

A few days ago, Laert Haxhiu , as well as two suspected members of his criminal group, had their cell phones found and seized, which they kept in the cells of the Drenova prison, which also led to the dismissal of the director of the institution.
