DYNAMICS how the TRAGEDY happened in Shkodra/ The stubbornness and desire for
Arben Anamali

The stubbornness and desire for adventure of foreign tourists cost the life of the ship's captain, Arben Anamali .

The 51-year-old jumped into the waters of Lake Shkodra to save the tourists who were traveling with him, but unfortunately he failed to save his own life.

How did the whole incident happen?

Arben Anamali had set out on the ship "Drini" from Shiroka towards Zogaj.

Yesterday afternoon, while sailing, tourists from Israel asked them to enter the lake to bathe, a request that was refused several times by the captain.

The animal warned them of the danger, but no one listened.

Of the 15 people on board, 5 of them jumped in to wash even though Anamali had explained to them several times that what they were looking for was a very dangerous "adventure" due to the wind that was blowing.

But they didn't listen and jumped!

However, they were unable to stay long and within minutes they asked for help.

At this moment, Captain Arben Anamali swam towards the tourists, who had been blown about 50 meters away from the ship by the strong wind, while he had two rescuers with him.

He brought a group of 3 people closer to the ship, and then went to pick up 2 more tourists.

Although he saved the four tourists, he himself was unable to approach the ship because his strength was exhausted.

Therefore, even today, his body has still not been found, even though a search is being carried out with divers.

In Shkodra, Arben Anamali is known as a master of boat and skiff engines, but also a licensed captain. He was hired by the Shkodra Municipality on May 1, 2024, when the tourist boats "Buna" and "Drini" were brought in.

The 51-year-old father of two children, a 17-year-old son and a 14-year-old daughter, lost his life trying to save the tourists.
