"We were terrified"/ Children and pregnant women towards England by
29 years old, from Beijing, Etleva Kupsi

"The waves started, we were terrified...we are very bad..." 8 hours of sailing in the middle of the sea and 50 people on a 7-meter long raft, exclamations, fear and some children's cries in the background, this voice recorded by the mobile device, will to include us in a 1-month journey between sacrifices and dangers of an Albanian emigrant who, to leave Albania, chose the illegal and torturous way by raft.

29-year-old, from Beijing, Etleva Kupsi, tells on Report TV, the "slavish" journey together with her 9-year-old son to Great Britain.

"This is crazy and I often apologize to my son for the selfishness I have shown in this whole initiative to save myself. I put my son's life in danger and for that I feel really guilty, I admit it," she said.

This is how Etleva begins the narrative of her 30-day journey in the middle of July. For her, leaving was the only possibility to avoid the chaos experienced all those years in her country. As a creative nature (author of several artistic projects), it was not finances that influenced her decision, but art and appreciation as a woman.

How did you manage to make contact with the people who would accompany you to arrive in England, how much was the amount they asked you to send you to your destination and what route did you take?

-Recently in the Albanian and English media there has been a lot of talk about how Albanians come to the United Kingdom illegally, in rafts, trucks, etc. Where you are also aware of how traffickers circulate through social networks such as Tik-tok, etc. As for the prices, so I am not an exception in this case, just like others, the contact is understood where it is enabled. I would not like to go into too much detail about the route, as I would absolutely not want anyone to take this risk, especially in my case with a small child. This is crazy and I often apologize to my son for the selfishness I have shown in this whole initiative to save myself I put his life in danger and for that I really feel guilty, I admit it.

How many people were in the group, how many of them were Albanians?

- The groups were separate and led by a respective trafficker. There were almost 50 people in the raft that we set out on, among them 35 Albanians, we had a total of 4 children and a pregnant woman with us. There were also people from Iran in the group.

Where did you feel the greatest danger? Were you ever threatened, abused?

-We stayed for about a month in the forest of France in camps (tents) and it was a challenge in itself not only for hygiene, but also for adapting to different races and unknown people. There were other women with children and that way I didn't feel alone. Almost every night we heard shots, clashes between groups, injuries, etc. We walked every night for 4 hours in the middle of the forest with the idea of reaching the seashore, with the hope of going by raft, and sometimes the police stopped us, sometimes the raft broke. Often, for about a month, as many times as we tried the chance, the French police left us somewhere in the middle of nowhere where we didn't even remember going back to the forest. We also slept in train stations.

A u lëndua ndonjë pjesëtar i grupit?

Si do e përshkruanit këtë eksperience?

Have you had any communication with the relevant authorities for immigration issues in the country you are in?

- I am registered in the United Kingdom and have a residence permit for two years until my asylum case is followed and I hope to be provided with regular documents.

The number of flights bringing illegal migrants into Albania will increase every week in 2023 under plans to tackle Britain's migrant crisis. British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is planning to introduce legislation by the end of February to make it easier for migrants who arrived in the UK illegally, including on small boats crossing the Channel, to enter.
