Former Albanian policeman shot in the head in Italy, dies after three days in
Fatos Cenaj

Former Albanian police officer, Fatos Cenaj, after three days in a fight for his life, did not manage to survive the injuries he sustained.

The 58-year-old was shot in the head in Italy on June 8. The cause of Cenaj's fatal injury is still unknown, while the Padua Prosecutor's Office suspects an assassination attempt by a hired killer in revenge for the conflicts in Albania.

“He never had any problems with anyone,” the family members say. The Padua prosecutor's office has opened an investigation into attempted murder, and a forensic pathologist will be appointed to conduct analyses on the head wounds and the trajectory of the shots.

The scan performed at the hospital when Fatos Cenaj was admitted to the hospital revealed two wounds, one entry and one exit. The bullet entered behind the ear and exited from the forehead. So, from the bottom up, but the cartridge case is missing and for this reason the weapon has not yet been determined, it is not known whether it is a pistol or a hunting rifle.

The motive is also still unknown, it is not ruled out that the 58-year-old was accidentally hit by a blank bullet fired by someone who was testing a weapon in the area. What is hypothesized is that Fatos Cenaj during his career has troubled some high-profile criminal, who, years later, organized someone to take revenge on him.

Investigators are trying, through careful technical activity, to intercept all the telephone lines that at the time of the assassination attempt had been connected to Fontaniva's cells, and specifically those near Via Casoni Basse. An area where it is easy to reach by car and leave undisturbed.
