The group consisting of 5 Albanians, who were caught a week ago with a load of 585 kilograms of cocaine, appeared before the Thessaloniki Court today.

The members of the gang (4 men and one woman), who are accused of trafficking and selling narcotics, said today before the Greek jury that they were just "carriers" of the cargo and that they would deliver the quantity of narcotics to someone else and that they were simply fulfilling orders, implying that they have no other information about the final destination of the shipment.

As a result, the Greek justice decided today the measure of detention for the 5 Albanians. It is expected that there will be a second court session where the final measure will be communicated to the group by the Greek judiciary.

Meanwhile, the Greek media report that one of the five Albanians, specifically a 50-year-old, is suspected of being the "head" of the criminal group.

In his testimony, the 50-year-old denied the accusations of leading the criminal group, stressing that he was following orders. He told the court that he works as a firefighter in Albania.

Whether his testimony is true or not remains to be seen.

Information about the illegal shipment, the largest seized in Thessaloniki and one of the largest in Greece, reached Greek authorities through the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) office in Athens. It is not officially known how and when the drug arrived, but it is suspected that it came from Latin America and that it was transported by sea to the port of Thessaloniki.
