"I can't take it anymore! I'm sorry I bothered you, but believe me, I've never been mean to you. Thank you for everything you've done for me!"

These are the words written in the farewell letter that Xhuana Nikollaj left to her family before committing suicide, a short message, but filled with pain and gratitude for those closest to her.

The entire tragic event took place in Tirana. On March 9, the deceased's ex-husband, Eraldo Fizi, went to Xhuana Nikollaj's apartment, at the former airfield in Tirana.

Xhuana had been living in the capital for a while in a rented apartment with a friend. The 25-year-old, a law graduate, had also started working to make ends meet in Tirana after her separation from Eraldo Fizi.

She was looking forward to starting a new job in the profession for which she graduated and was very happy about the opportunity she was being given.

The young woman's family, mainly her sisters, were aware of her situation with her ex-husband and this was one of the reasons why they decided for Xhuana to move to Tirana, where she initially lived with her sister and then with her friend.

Xhuana's family has always been supportive of her, helping her with the situation that had happened to her after the marriage. The young woman had always complained to her family, not about her ex-husband, but about his family. According to the family, the young woman claimed that her relationship was working as it should until the moment her ex-husband's family intervened.

Among other things, family members told the police that she was not pregnant and that until the moment she met Fizi in Tirana, she was quite happy with her new lifestyle.

On March 9, her ex-husband goes to the palace. Xhuana goes downstairs with her friend, where Eraldo Fizi was also. The friend, worried about her, went down with her, stayed for a few minutes and then went up to the apartment. But within a few minutes, Xhuana, her ex-husband takes her away.

It is suspected that during the time she stayed with him, Xhuana was brutally raped by 25-year-old Eraldo Fizi, confirmed by forensic expertise that the young woman had been raped. In severe psychological conditions and raped, the young woman returned to the apartment around 3 am with numerous signs of violence, making it impossible for her to go to work with signs of violence.

In the morning, the friend she shared the house with left for work. At around 7:30 in the morning, after her friend left, it is suspected that Xhuana also consumed phostoxin and began writing a farewell letter to her family.

Xhuana had three other sisters. After committing the act of self-immolation, she called her sister who lived in England. Worried, the sister immediately called her friend and the landlord of the rented apartment. The latter, as soon as he was informed, immediately called the ambulance and the police.

Police are also investigating how Xhuana obtained the phostoxin, as according to the records she had been with her ex-husband the entire time until 3 a.m., when he returned to the apartment. Police are investigating who gave the phostoxin to the young woman.

Investigators have also raised other suspicions about 25-year-old Eraldo Fizi, who is on the run. According to statements from her family and friends to the police, Xhuana Nikollaj did not suffer from depression and had never been treated.

The young woman and Eraldo Fizi had been in love since high school in Lezha and in the summer of 2025 they got married, a marriage that proved fatal for the young woman, causing her to leave life in the prime of her youth.

Meanwhile, this Friday at 6:00 PM, tributes were held in honor of the 25-year-old in the city of Lezha, where hundreds of citizens, relatives, friends and young people gathered to light candles and place flowers in her memory, expressing their pain and solidarity with the family and demanding that such cases receive a full response from justice.
