Hundreds of citizens in Lezha gathered to light candles and lay flowers in memory of 25-year-old Xhuana Nikollaj.

Amidst pain, tears, and silence, those present honored the life of a young girl who tragically passed away, while next to her photograph were bouquets of flowers and lit candles symbolizing pain, but also solidarity with her family.

Relatives, citizens, and institutional representatives stood together for a few moments of reflection, remembering a life cut short too soon and raising their voices against the violence that continues to affect women and girls in Albania.

The atmosphere of the tributes was filled with strong emotions, while many of those present experienced this moment as a call for awareness and stronger social response.

The tragic event occurred just a few days after International Women's Day, a date that symbolizes the rights and dignity of women, making this loss even more painful and bringing the scourge of violence against women back into focus.

Meanwhile, her partner, Eraldo Fizi, who is suspected of being the cause of the suicide, is still wanted by the Police, under suspicion of the criminal offenses of "Domestic Violence" and "Causing Suicide".

According to preliminary investigation data, Fizi had returned from abroad on March 9 and is suspected of having gone to his ex-wife's apartment in Tirana, where there may have been a confrontation between them. The following day, in the early morning hours of March 10, the 25-year-old consumed fostoxin.

Sources from the investigation say that signs of violence were found on her body, on her head, face and one arm, while a letter that the young woman had left for her parents was also found in the apartment.

Xhuana Nikollaj and Eraldo Fizi were married in June 2025 in Lezha, but the marriage only lasted about three months. After the separation, the 25-year-old moved to Tirana to live with her sisters.

Meanwhile, investigations continue to fully elucidate the circumstances that led to her death.
