Edoardo Bove will have a defibrillator implanted under his heart, just like Danish player Christian Eriksen did. The 22-year-old will have a life-saving device implanted under his skin this weekend or possibly on Monday.
Something like this comes after the Fiorentina player collapsed on the pitch after a 'cardiac arrest' in the match against Inter.
This is reported today by "Gazzetta dello Sport", adding that Bove is expected to be released from the hospital by the middle of next week. Then he will visit his teammates at "Viola Park".
Due to Serie A regulations, Bove will not be able to play in the Italian top flight with a defibrillator in his heart, similar to what happened to Christian Eriksen after he suffered a cardiac arrest with Denmark at Euro 2020 while still an Inter player.
Bove has understood that he will be able to continue playing football, perhaps slowly, at high levels abroad, in a championship that does not have such strict rules as Italy in this regard. In the coming weeks he will also discuss the possibility of terminating his contract with the club that owns his card, Roma.
But there is time, as after the operation, several weeks of rest will be needed and then a period of rehabilitation. One can imagine a new career abroad, which could start in the second half of the current season or next summer.
A cardiac defibrillator is a device that allows monitoring of possible heart variations and its use is prescribed by international guidelines for people who have suffered a cardiac arrest due to an arrhythmia that has caused fibrillation.
