It should have been a happy day to remember, but yesterday turned into a tragedy for the Avdia family at Potami beach in Himare. A powerful speedboat driven by the former head of the Commissariat of this municipality, Arjan Tase, hit the 7-year-old daughter of the family, killing her on the spot.
Today is a day of mourning in the Avdia family, as they opened the mortuary doors to bid their last farewell to their little girl. There is mourning in the family's apartment in Tirana, while around 15:00 it is expected that the little girl will be laid to rest in the last apartment.
The Avdia family came to Albania for vacation, after living in England for years. They chose the beach of Potam in Himar to spend the hot days of August, but disaster struck them, leaving a great trauma in the public opinion.
We remind you that the tragedy in Himare happened the day before (August 2). The 7-year-old girl was bathing on the shore, where the boat with two engines hit her hard, killing her on the spot. Currently the driver of the boat, Arjan Tase, is the head of community policing in Elbasan. He was accompanied to the police while he was dismissed from the ranks of the police.
In his testimony, Tase said that the speedboat was not his, but he took it from his cousin for use, and added that the speedboat had a defect, and as a result, he got gas immediately and made a spin on the spot and hit the girl 7-year-old to death.
Meanwhile, Tase did not have a speedboat license. He was the Chief of the Himara Police Station, but was arrested after an anti-drug operation, however, he returned to the ranks of the police. The entire management chain of the Vlora Border and Migration Police was dismissed for the serious incident.
This is not the first time during this summer season that people have been injured as a result of boats losing control. Dangerous maneuvers have several times endangered the lives of vacationers, as happened in Jalë, where the driver of a boat, Gjergj Priftuli, caused an accident to a couple of vacationers. Another serious case occurred at Jonufra beach, where a 40-year-old man driving a dinghy injured a 7-year-old child who was swimming near the shore.
