A tragedy has occurred in an Albanian family in Lucca, Italy, where 4 of its members lost their lives due to a gas leak.
The serious news was reported by Italian media, which say that the incident occurred on Wednesday evening (February 4) under still unclear circumstances, while there are suspicions that the leak was caused by a defect in the boiler in their apartment.
The victims are a 48-year-old father, a 43-year-old mother, and two children, aged 22 and 15, respectively. A fifth person, the brother of the head of the family, is reported to have been injured and is in hospital.
Also, two carabinieri, who arrived at the scene to provide first aid, suffered mild intoxication, but are out of danger.
According to authorities, the tragedy occurred around dinner time. Upon entering the apartment, rescue teams found the table set, indicating that the family was preparing to eat.
The alarm was raised by the family head's brother, who notified the carabinieri. After arriving at the three-story apartment and receiving no response after numerous knocks, they were forced to break down the door.
Inside the apartment, the police were faced with a dramatic scene, four lifeless bodies lying on the floor. Moments later, the fifth family member also lost consciousness due to carbon monoxide, under the eyes of the carabinieri, who managed to get out of the apartment in time and raise the alarm. He was urgently transported to the Cisanello hospital.
