Two Albanian nationals have been sentenced to 56 months in prison each after being found guilty of a series of organised burglaries at seven properties in England. Among the properties robbed was the home of a well-known former Aston Villa and Birmingham City footballer.

Denis Puka, 28, and Erisjan Laska, 29, along with a third person who is yet to be identified, carried out several attempted robberies over three consecutive nights in June last year. They had rented an Airbnb apartment in Warrington, which they used as a base of operations, while travelling from other areas to carry out the thefts.

Chester Crown Court heard the group operated in a sophisticated and well-organised manner. They used a Seat Leon, fitted with three fake number plates that they changed during their raids, mainly in the Cheshire area. They were also equipped with masks, work tools and radios.

Among the homes targeted was the home of Scott Hogan, a former Aston Villa and Birmingham City player and current Milton Keynes Dons striker. The incident occurred on the evening of June 7, when the footballer was awakened by the light of a lamp shining through his bedroom window. At the time, his wife, who was pregnant at the time, and their young daughter were also in the house.

According to the prosecution, the three people had entered the yard and tried to reach the bedroom window by climbing on top of each other. Hogan saw them and tried to follow them, but the perpetrators ran away. Nothing was taken from this apartment, but the footballer stated that the incident has caused him sleepless nights, constant stress and anxiety, forcing him to install a new security system for the family.

During sentencing, Judge Steven Everett described their activity as "sophisticated and well-planned," emphasizing the trauma caused to the victims, especially the footballer and his family.
