SPAK signs authorization, family members can visit Erion Veliaj in prison!

The Special Prosecution Office has issued authorization to Erion Veliaj's family members to visit the mayor of Tirana in Durrës detention center.

Erion Veliaj was arrested on February 10 by order of SPAK prosecutor Ols Dado , and after the confirmation of the security measure by the Special Court, he was transferred on Thursday from the "Mine Peza" Security Block in the capital to the Durrës detention center.

The SPAK investigation has revealed that Erion Veliaj and Ajola Xoxa have created a scheme to benefit from bribes for personal enrichment through a number of organizations and companies controlled by them or their relatives and have benefited from at least 1.1 million euros in nine cases.

Veliaj is accused of having benefited from three villas in a tourist village in Qerret, while Xoxa is accused of having spent around 800 thousand euros on online purchases, which he did not declare in his annual tax returns.

Businessmen Elman Abule, Gentian Sula, Shkëlqim Fusha, Fatmir Bektashi, Meriman Palushi and Sokol Kryeziu , in exchange for tenders from the Municipality of Tirana and construction permits, offered Erion Veliaj monetary sums through fictitious purchases, plane tickets, sponsorships, Ajola Xoxa's NGOs, as well as real estate, such as several villas in Qerret.

After a 1-year investigation by SPAK, Erion Veliaj has been charged with committing the criminal offenses of "Passive corruption of high-ranking state officials or local elected officials", committed in collaboration (9 times) and "Laundering of the proceeds of a criminal offense or criminal activity".

Erion Veliaj is expected to appeal the measure of " Arrest in Prison " to the Special Court of Appeals.
