A preliminary hearing will be held today at the Criminal Court of Tirana regarding the file of Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj, to determine whether or not it will go to trial.
In addition to Veliaj, this file includes 28 people and companies, including his wife Ajola Xoxa and former socialist MP Klotilda Bushka.
The Special Anti-Corruption Prosecution Office closed the investigations and sent the file of Veliaj and other individuals for trial on September 10.
Veliaj is accused of being involved in 9 cases of corruption, money laundering and undeclared assets, abuse of office and bringing prohibited items into the cell. His wife, Ajola Xoxa, is also accused of passive corruption in 9 cases, also in relation to commercial entities and non-profit organizations. She is also accused of money laundering, undeclared assets and concealment of income. The former MP is accused of actions that hinder the discovery of the truth.
