Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj will return to the Special Court of Appeal this Monday, June 9, in another attempt to change his prison sentence. The hearing is scheduled to take place at 2:00 PM and will be presided over by Judge Engert Pëllumbi.
Through his lawyers, Veliaj has appealed the decision of April 23, when Judge Erion Bani decided to accept SPAK's periodic information, along with the continuation of the security measure against Veliaj.
Veliaj is requesting a softer security measure, offering and making available financial guarantees without specifying an amount, leaving it to the court's discretion. Earlier, Veliaj, through his lawyers, has also filed a recourse with the High Court for the security measure, but the date of the hearing and the panel of judges have not yet been set.
Veliaj is under investigation for passive corruption and money laundering, and has been in prison custody since February 10.
