The topic of betrayal still remains a much-discussed issue even today. Why do we cheat? Why is it different for a woman to cheat and for a man it doesn't matter?

These are some of the questions that the sociologist, Gëzim Tushi, answered on the show "Aldo Morning Show", on TV Klan.

He states that in Albanian society there is a double standard and there is a distorted classification of treason.

Gëzim Tushi: There are two main things that make this classification of treason distorted in Albanian society. The first is the idea that Albanian society has had a double moral, a double morality. Different morals for men, different morals for women. The idea is that, that is, the man's betrayal can be corrected, so the man can be rehabilitated after he violates this morality, let's say, and the violation...

Aldo: They also mention a Turkish expression, which says: "A man washes himself with a glass of water".

Gëzim Tushi: Yes, that is true. This is the masculinist root of dealing with this thing, the issue of infidelity. In fact, I think that there are some things that are distorted in the Albanian society, related to the conception of treason. For example, a large part of Albanian society still considers treason a crime. It is precisely because of this mentality that he is killed. So, we have dozens of cases in Albania where a man kills a woman or a man kills her.

Gëzim Tushi: Yes, of course, on dozens of occasions. Because of jealousy, real or imagined betrayal. And one thing is after all, morality is personal. The body is private property and at the end of the day even if they committed treason… although to tell you the truth Aldo, I have a different concept of this terminology of using the term treason. It is also being discussed in the world. It is a heavy term, it is a political term. And precisely because we consider it treason...

Aldo: Now, the point is there. He betrayed a relationship.

Gëzim Tushi: We can consider it as a violation of marital fidelity, as a lack of fidelity, there are milder terms. If we soften the terms, we will also soften the actions or attitudes towards them.

The sociologist also shows that when a man has several girlfriends, he uses it as a form of bragging, while women have the opposite sense.

Aldo: Is this too heavy for a woman?

Gëzim Tushi: Look, in today's time, what is the truth, this problem of betrayal, lack of marital fidelity, I am using this term, has become more massive.

Aldo: Okay, we're not stopping at that, we're stopping at man-woman.

Gëzim Tushi: Exactly, to the woman-man ratio. That is, in a way, if you notice in the studies that have been done, they show that the man, for example, has the effect of bragging when he shows that he has a lover. As you know, Albanian men have a habit of wanting to increase the number of girlfriends. But women have the opposite sense. That is, they generally want to deny it even if they had it and this is the result of the moral framework. The moral hypocrisy that society has cultivated.
