Eight people were arrested in Tirana, two are at large and two are wanted for the graves scandal in Tufina. Among those arrested is Eljodor Ndini, director of the Funeral Services Agency of Tirana Municipality.
Details from the prosecutor's file for corruption with the cemetery in Tirana, where the measure of arrest with prison was requested for 6 people. The file contains serious details about the scheme, where an elderly woman was forced to wait for the new year's reward, in order to buy the grave site for herself and her husband, against the amount of 500 thousand lek.
This would be done against the exhumation of the people who died earlier, whose corpses would be placed in the wall cemetery.
Excerpts from the file:
The file states, among other things, that: On May 30, 2022, citizen Mediga Sula, born in 1941, was presented at the Tirana Police Department.
In her report, the citizen in question explained that three years ago she was interested in two graves, one for herself and one for her husband. At that time in September, she met a person named Bujar, a driver at the Tufina cemetery.
Bujar told him that he knew a person in charge of the cemetery of Tufina, and together they will talk to find the places of the graves that Sula was looking for. Then the complainant together with her husband, Adi and Bujar, met at the cemetery, and Adi showed her two old graves, and told her that they have corpses inside, he would remove them and put them in the wall places.
"We will arrange it with a border on top, I will also write the names and we will finish this work, after you give me 500 thousand old lek".
In December 2019, after receiving the new year's reward and with the savings he had accumulated, he completed the 500,000 lek, and handed it to Bujar in his car. But after 6 months, Medihaja discovered that the promise was not kept by the people who took bribes.
