The European Commission has temporarily cut off funds for Albania within the IPARD 2 program, which is used for the financial support of projects in agriculture.

The news was confirmed for the Albanian media by the Delegation of the European Union in Tirana, which clarifies that this measure was taken within the framework of an investigation launched by Brussels, following accusations of corruption with funds for agriculture.

" The European Commission has informed the Albanian government that it has taken precautionary measures based on initial information provided by the European Anti-Fraud Office [OLAF], following an investigation into allegations of corruption related to the implementation of the IPARD II programme. As a preventive measure for the protection of the financial interests of the European Union, the European Commission has temporarily suspended the reimbursements to the Albanian authorities for the expenses incurred within the IPARD II program" , explains the office of the Delegation of the European Union to Albania.

The delegation affirms that the investigation is ongoing and at its conclusion it will be seen if further measures are needed.

The European Commission cannot comment on any possible findings of OLAF on the implementation of the IPARD II program (2014-2020) in Albania. OLAF's investigation continues. When OLAF submits the final report, the European Commission will inform the Albanian authorities and, based on the findings of the report, will take any further measures necessary to protect the financial interests of the European Union", explains the Delegation of the European Union .
