Since Saturday afternoon, measures have been released for goods from Serbia, which were banned by a decision of the Government of Kosovo on June 14.
Almost a month later, the government has decided to lift the security measure banning the entry of Serbian goods into Kosovo.
The decision was made public on July 8.
According to the new decision of the Ministry of Industry, Enterprise and Trade (MINT), as of Saturday, raw material goods and those with zero VAT have been released from the ban.
MINT has assessed that the easing of measures for Serbian goods is a market need.
"In reference to the ordinance dated 06/14/2023, we inform you that after reviewing the security and market needs, it is requested that the following exceptions be implemented".
The first point of the decision envisages the release from the measures of Serbian products which are used in the production process.
"Provided that the importer is authorized for release and possesses the authorizations according to Annex 1 and 2 of TAK and Customs, all products used in the production process, which are released, are exempted from the security restriction for the import of Serbian products from the excise duty according to Government decision 13/07 dated 06.10.2017, the customs duty according to decision 14/07 dated 06.10.2017 as well as VAT".
Meanwhile, the second point of the decision foresees the exemption from the prohibition measures of all Serbian products which are exempt from VAT.
"From the aforementioned limitation, the products exempted with zero VAT rate are also excluded", it is stated in point 2 of the decision.
No truck with goods originating from Serbia has entered the territory of Kosovo since the Government of Kosovo made a decision to ban the entry of trucks with Serbian products and license plates into Kosovo on June 14.
That day, the Government of Kosovo had made a decision to tighten border controls with Serbia.
This decision was taken after the arrest of three members of the Kosovo Police by Serbian forces.
Within a day, Serbia as a country exports goods worth one million euros to Kosovo.
Last year alone, goods worth 372 million euros entered the local market, while Kosovo sold products worth about 62 million euros to Serbia.
