An Albanian tried to rape a student in England in October 2021, but today he lives free in Albania. This is how the British media "Daily Mail" reports, also emphasizing that a court has doubled the young man's sentence.
It is about the 25-year-old, Baftjar Bilalaj, who attacked a Cambridge University student during an evening in October 2021. The young Albanian was deported to Albania ahead of time, where he lives free without worrying about his sentence in the Kingdom United.
In November last year, Bilalaj was sentenced by Peterborough Crown to three years and four months in prison after pleading guilty to attempted rape and sexual assault.
Solicitor General Michael Tomlinson later sought an extension to the prison term, arguing that it was too lenient, but was unaware that Bilalaj had been voluntarily deported under an early release scheme in January.
At a hearing in London on Friday, judges increased Bilalaj's total sentence to seven years, but noted that their decision could be "worthless" if he is not arrested in Albania.
