Over 75,000 items of clothing were seized and six people are being investigated for fraud with an estimated €8 million worth of damage so far in Italy.
This is the result of a gigantic investigation by the financial police of Venice in Italy, which has concluded that in almost 400 stores, clothing allegedly 'Made in Italy' but produced in countries such as Albania, Bulgaria or Tunisia were sold.
The operation started from a check on the highway where inside a truck coming from Bulgaria, a large amount of clothes were found that actually had the logo "Made in Italy" or "best Italian fabrics" but the documents and transport invoices showed that they they were from abroad. The destination was a well-known fashion company based in the province of Brescia.
From the investigations, it was possible to establish that the stages of processing, production and packaging of the clothing would have been developed exclusively in other countries such as Albania, Bulgaria and Tunisia.
The Brescia-based company then imported and distributed them for sale to various stores throughout Italy. They carried strips of fabric in the colors of the Italian flag or the wording Finest Italian Fabrics.
At this moment, the Judicial Authority has allowed the control and seizure of over 400 businesses, retailers (suspects) of clothing with false indications of origin. So far, six people will have to answer criminally for the charge of fraud.
