The government blocked salaries in the Treasury / The Head of the Supreme Court wrote to Finance: Immediately unblock monthly payments

The President of the Supreme Court, Sokol Sadushi, has written a letter to the Ministry of Finance, requesting measures to resolve the problems created following the government's decision to block transfers from the State Treasury, intended for the salaries of judges and prosecutors.

Sadushi demands the immediate unblocking of judges' monthly payments.

Requests of the President of the Supreme Court:

-Immediate unblocking of judges' monthly payments

-Execution, from August 1, 2026 onwards, of the basic reference salary calculated in implementation of decision no. 15/2026 of the Constitutional Court and decision no. 435/2026 of the Supreme Court of Justice

-Following budgetary procedures for the allocation of any additional funds that are necessary for current payments

-Treatment of financial differences for the period April 1, 2023-July 31, 2026 according to the provisions of decision no. 435/2026, without using them as a reason for blocking current salaries.

On August 26, the Supreme Court of Kosovo and, two days later, the Supreme Court of Kosovo independently determined the reference salary for judges and prosecutors, imposing a significant increase.

The decision was argued with the fact that the Assembly had not approved a new salary formula by July 31, despite the obligation established by the Constitutional Court.

The government has blocked the August salaries for magistrates in the State Treasury, as it was against increasing their salaries. Meanwhile, previously the KLGj and KLP had increased their own salaries.

Initially, it was the Supreme Court that decided to increase the reference salary by 222,425, from 156,800 lekë previously, plus an additional 14 thousand lekë for the level of qualification. The same path was later followed by the KLP, a decision that was made at the meeting of August 28.
