According to the charges brought against Ilir Meta, the former president is accused of using his influence over officials to help the company "Unifi Communications INC" sign an interconnection agreement with a telephone company.

According to SPAK, Meta and Kryemadhi used their positions in politics and collaborated with businessmen to gain income.

In one of the cases, Meta, thanks to his function as Speaker of the Assembly, and his wife, Monika Kryemadhi, in 2014 used their influence influencing the heads of various state institutions as well as the heads of mobile phone companies, with the purpose of entering the optical fiber market as well as the conclusion of the interconnection agreement between the company "Unifi Communications INC" and a telephone company.

This agreement includes a collaboration between two private companies, but in fact it has not brought any financial damage to the state budget or citizens. Its activity consisted in buying minutes from these companies and selling them abroad, or buying minutes abroad and selling them in Albania.

As a result of this illegal influence, the couple received their percentage share of the company's profit, and were provided with credit cards by the company's administrator. The expenses made through these cards were not declared in the periodic statements of assets by the investigators.

The person under investigation Pirro Xhixho, using his authority as the President of AKEP, elected by the Albanian Parliament with the proposal of the political entity "Socialist Movement for Integration" (LSI), in implementation of the orders received from the entities Meta and Kryemadhi, no it only influenced the managers of the telephone company to finalize the agreement, but on the other hand, it allowed the private company to exercise its activity in violation of the AKEP law.

According to the accusation, the administrator of the company, Adrian Shatku, offered a credit card to Meta and his wife, Monika Kryemadhi, in exchange for this help.

However, an important part of Meta's defense is that no concrete evidence has been provided showing how he illegally favored the company, making it difficult to classify the offense as corruption.

Excerpts from the SPAK file:

"As a result of this illegal influence, the subjects under investigation, Ilir Meta and Monika Kryemadhi, have benefited from their percentage share of the company's profit, and have been provided with credit cards by the company's administrator. The expenses made through these cards have not been declared in periodic declarations of assets by the investigated. The person under investigation, Pirro Xhixho, using his authority as the Chairman of AKEP, elected by the Albanian Parliament with the proposal of the political entity "Socialist Movement for Integration" (LSI), in implementation of the orders of obtained by the subjects Ilir Meta and Monika Kryemadhi., has not only influenced the managers of the mobile telephone company for the finalization of the agreement, but on the other hand, has allowed the private company to exercise its activity in violation of the AKEP law. For these reasons, the persons under investigation Ilir Meta and Monika Kryemadhi are suspected of having committed the criminal offense of "Passive corruption of high state officials or elected officials", in collaboration, assisted by the other person under investigation P. Xh., who is accused of the same criminal offense.

"Ilir Meta has never paid for a single bottle of water in his life", declared today the MP of the Freedom Party, Monika Kryemadhi.

The mayor was asked by journalists about this agreement, but the deputy denied it and said that this is not in the file./ VoxNews
